Local Ablation Therapy for Liver Tumor

The book, compiled by 30 specialists of ablation therapy from different departments like radiology department, intervention department, internal medicine department and surgical department, etc., is an instructional book focusing on ablation therapy for liver tumor. Editorial board members include professors and scholars of several domestic tertiary hospitals, for example, Sun Yat-Sen University Cancer Center, Eastern Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital affiliated to the Second Military Medical University, Fuxin Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University, etc.

First version of the book was published in May, 2017. It is informative and practical, which covers the latest research results of local ablation therapy for liver tumor. Focusing on clinical application, the book systemically elaborates knowledge in ablation therapy for liver tumor from different aspects, like modern treatments for liver tumor, history of local ablation and physical and biological characteristics of various ablation techniques, etc.

Dr. Niu Lizhi, vice president of Asian Society of Cryosurgery, president of Guangzhou Fuda Cancer Hospital of Jinan University, comments, “This is an instructive book of practicality and authority. It can be a normative textbook for tumor ablation therapy of the day.”

Professor Wu Peihong comments, “The book is not only suitable for beginners to study and use for reference, but also for experienced ones to improve their skills. Moreover, it works out problems for radiologists and interventional radiologists. And at the same time it provides reference for oncologists.”

Professor Wu Peihong introduces that China has a large population of liver cancer patients. Up to now, selection strategy for liver tumor therapy has not reached a consensus around the world. Lots of controversies are existing among “expert consensus” led by different departments and academies. Nowadays, not a few of experts still consider that surgical operation is the only way to treat liver cancer. Once the patient was notified that chance of surgical operation was lost, his/her days could be counted. However, most liver cancer cases in China develop from hepatitis and cirrhosis. Surgical operation is one option of local treatments, but it cannot inhibit recurrence and metastasis. Minimally invasive treatment with multiple advantages should be a preferred anticancer option.

“Irreversible electroporation” and “Cryoablation” techniques at Guangzhou Fuda Cancer Hospital are included in “Local Ablation Therapy for Liver Tumor”
